Birkir Bjarnason is back available for the Play-Off semi-final first leg in a big boost for boss Steve Bruce.

Bjarnason has been struggling with a back problem which first flared up in the warm-up of the home game against Cardiff.

However, the Iceland midfielder has trained this week and should be in Bruce’s plans for the Boro clash at the Riverside on Saturday.

Neil Taylor is out with a hamstring problem, however, which saw him come off against Derby and miss the final game of the regular season at Milwall.

Axel Tuanzebe is still struggling with an ankle problem, which has seen him absent since the home win over the Bluebirds.

Sam Johnstone, meanwhile, could have a double boost in the coming days as he looks to add the birth of his first baby to a good result on Teesside.
