Bruce on promotion chase

Steve Bruce insists there’s still a “long way to go” in the promotion race this season.

Bruce watched as his team got beaten 3-1 at home to QPR while Wolves defeated Reading 3-0 and Cardiff went to Brentford and picked up a 3-1 victory.

It’s a set-back for the claret and blues but Bruce is far from giving up hope on an automatic spot just yet.

He said: “There’s still a long way to go.

“We threw it wide open on Saturday but unfortunately we have damaged ourselves tonight.

“But there are 27 points to play for – that’s huge.

“It’s who can string a run together. Can we go on another run now when it’s most important?

“We have to recover and accept that you get beaten. It’s part and parcel of football.

“In football, there’s always the chance to put a defeat behind you, too.

“We will dust ourselves down and get ready for the weekend.”
