Team news

John Terry is a doubt for the Nottingham Forest fixture after rolling his ankle in a midweek training session.

Our skipper made his comeback from a lengthy injury lay-off last weekend, but may now have to postpone his league return.

Mile Jedinak will also undergo a late fitness test having picked up a minor problem since his last appearance in the 5-0 rout of Bristol City.

In better news, Scott Hogan is available again after missing our FA Cup tie with an ankle issue, and could start once again in the league having scored on New Year's Day last time out.

Dugout analysis

Steve Bruce

"It'll be another big game against Forest, and we'll have less than 20 to play when it's over.

"We're expecting a difficult game, they've got some good players.

"Yes, we're coming up against a new manager who has new ideas.

"But for me, it's not the manager we take on. It's the team and how they perform.

"The last two games in the league we've arguably been as good as we have all season. It's important we maintain that form."

Aitor Karanka

Aitor Karanka

"The players have to realise that to play against Villa, they have to fight with the same intensity as Arsenal because Villa are a good team and another big club.

"The players know they will have to fight at least to the same level that they did on Sunday.

"I will need to get to know the players more but the main thing is all about the attitude on the pitch.

"With the right attitude they beat Arsenal and if we play with that attitude then we will do well."

Match stats

Robert Snodgrass has had a hand in nine goals in his last 12 league appearances for Villa (four goals, five assists).

Forest have played seven matches against the current top six in the Championship this season and collected just one point (P7 W0 D1 L6).

We have the chance to win our first two league games of a calendar year for the first time since 2009 on Saturday.

Forest have failed to find the net in each of their last three league matches, their longest drought since December 2011 (a run of seven without scoring).

We've scored exactly two goals in our last five league encounters against Forest.
