Match: Aston Villa v Sheffield United
Date: December 23, 2017
Venue: Villa Park
Weather: 9c, clear skies
Adomah (pen) 4
Donaldson 12, 26
Villa were unable to capitalise on a blistering start as they were pegged back by fellow promotion contenders Sheffield United.
Less than four minutes had elapsed when Albert Adomah sent Simon Moore the wrong way from the penalty spot after Keinan Davis had been brought down by Richard Stearman.
And home supporters were in raptures when Mile Jedinak met Robert Snodgrass’s cross from the right with a firm header inside the near post.
By the 26th minute, though, the Blades were level with two well-taken goals from Clayton Donaldson, and that was the end of the scoring.
Conor Hourihane twice went close with powerful shots, and Adomah was just off target with a header but Villa failed to sustain a threat in the second half.
