Henri Lansbury: Fantastic to score – I wanted to jump in with the fans!
Henri Lansbury says he was so overjoyed to have scored his first Villa goal on his return to the first-team that he wanted to jump in with the 3,000+ away supporters at Leeds United.
The midfielder netted a second-half equaliser after coming on as a substitute – his first appearance in nearly three months.
He admits both the comeback and the goal had been a long time coming.
Speaking about his leveller, he said: "It was fantastic! I wanted to jump in there and celebrate with our away fans.
"I was close to going in but there was a wall and thought I'd better not having only just got back from a knee injury!
"It's been a long time coming to get back out on the pitch.
"It feels like a weight off my shoulders now.
"I'm delighted to be back out there and it feels great to score.
"As for the goal itself, it's something I've been waiting for since the moment I joined.
"To do it in front of the travelling fans was excellent."
Lansbury's goal was the second time in a row that Villa came back from a goal down to take something from their travels, having also done so at QPR.
And he says that's down to the fight of the team and the impact the whole squad is having.
He added: "We're building a resilience in this team.
"We played well in the second half, got stuck in and created chances.
"It's always the aim for subs to make the impact and I feel me and Jack Grealish did that well.
"We've both been working hard to get on the pitch and it's paid off.
"It' a very good point. Leeds is a tough place to come and the fans really get on top of you. We coped with it well."
