Match: Aston Villa v Sheffield Wednesday
Date: November 4, 2017
Venue: Villa Park
Weather: 9c, partly cloudy
Villa endured a frustrating afternoon as they struggled to break down stubborn Sheffield Wednesday in front of Villa Park’s biggest crowd of the season.
A goal down inside 20 seconds and two behind by the 23rd miunute, Steve Bruce’s men battled in vain to get back into a game in which they lost skipper John Terry and winger Robert Snodgrass to first-half injuries.
The game was barely under way when Adam Reach opened the scoring with a swerving left-foot volley from 30 yards, and the home side’s problem’s intensified when Jordan Rhodes doubled Wednesday’s lead just two minutes after Terry had limped off.
Villa finally managed a response in the sixth minute of added time when Chris Samba converted Callum O’Hare’s low cross from close range.
Jack Grealish was back in first-team action for the first time since he suffered kidney damage in the pre-season friendly against Watford, the young midfielder going on as a substitute for Glenn Whelan.
