Match: Aston Villa v Fulham
Date: October 21, 2017
Venue: Villa Park
Weather: 12c, wet and windy
John Terry scored his first goal for the club and Albert Adomah hit a second-half winner as Villa emerged with maximum points from an entertaining contest against Fulham.
Steve Bruce’s side were ahead on 23 minutes when Conor Hourihane delivered an inswinging free-kick from the right and Terry timed his run perfectly to send a powerful header inside the near post.
If David Button had no chance with that one, the Fulham keeper prevented Villa from complete control by half-time, making good saves from Hourihane, Josh Onomah and Jonathan Kodjia – only for Stefan Johansen to equalise from a free-kick in added time.
But Villa were back in front four minutes after the interval, Adomah firing home a low shot after Glenn Whelan’s fine pass had set up Onomah for a cross from the right.
Sam Johnstone kept the lead intact with a point-blank save from Floyd Ayite before sub Ritchie De Laet almost increased it with a late header that was brilliantly tipped over by Button.
