Analysis

Conor Hourihane netted a hat-trick and Andre Green scored his first senior goal as Villa recorded their first Championship win of the season.

Hourihane opened the scoring on 22 minutes, driving home from close range following a perfect low cross from Keinan Davis, who impressed on his first starting appearance.

The midfielder’s second goal, created by Henri Lansbury, took a deflection as it flew into the top corner, and his third was a precise low shot following a pass from Ahmed Elmohamady.

GreenPostNorwichMainWebGreen, meanwhile, curled home a superb 20-yard shot after Davis had headed on for sub Henri Lansbury to provide a fine pass three minutes before half-time.

There were some nervous moments as Josh Murphy and sub Nelson Oliveira reduced the deficit to 2-1 and then 3-2 but Steve Bruce’s men were ultimately good value for three points.

Villa completely dominated the first half, creating enough chances to have had the points sewn up by the interval.

Apart from setting up the opening goal, Davis could have had a two or three of his own, forcing keeper Angus Gunn into a couple of fine saves as well as sending a shot against the bar.

And Elmohamady almost added a fifth in stoppage time when he also rattled the bar with an angled drive.
