Aston Villa won the pre-season friendly tournament, the Cup of Traditions, after victories over MSV Duisburg and Hertha Berlin.
Steve Bruce’s men defeated Duisburg 3-0 in the opening game of the event – two from Scott Hogan and one from Andre Green doing the damage.
That helped the claret and blues through to the showpiece final – a tie with Hertha Berlin who had earlier defeated Malaga to reach the showdown.
New signing Chris Samba opened the scoring before Gabriel Agbonlahor sealed victory.
Both matches were 45 minutes long in a rare tournament format.
John Terry and James Chester lifted the trophy in front of an enthusiastic travelling faithful, who were, as usual, on brilliant form in the stands.
The results means Bruce’s men are in high spirits as pre-season continues with two more games before the big kick-off against Hull City on Saturday August 5.
First, we face Arminia Bielefeld at FC Gütersloh’s Heidewaldstadion on Tuesday July 25.
Then we complete pre-season with a memorial friendly on Saturday July 29 in honour of the great Graham Taylor.
