Villa in Portugal: Bruce eyes swift conclusion to goalkeeper hunt

Steve Bruce says he’s targeting “two or three” new additions to his ranks – and hopes to sign a goalkeeper in the next two days.

Bruce, talking to club TV out here at the team’s Portugal training camp, stresses that the sooner he can get the players in, the quicker they can get used to their claret and blue surroundings ahead of the upcoming campaign.

He said: “We are still hoping to bring two or three additions into the club.

“I hope we can do a bit of business pretty soon. The good thing is that if you can get the players in and settled before the season starts, it’s always an enormous help.”

On the goalkeeping situation, he continued: “We hope to be able to announce something in the next 24/48 hours if we can. That would be ideal.

“It’s no big secret that I am still hoping we can tie up Sam Johnstone from Manchester United.

“I think that’s still ongoing but ultimately we have to respect Manchester United.

“I know they go on tour on Sunday. We will see what develops in the next 24/48 hours.”
