Press Talk: Terry Villa move? Amavi set to leave? Whelan competition

Daily Mirror: John Terry currently finds himself without a club next summer after ending a 22-year spell with Chelsea. Terry could move to Birmingham and join Harry Redknapp as the St Andrews side are willing to make him their highest paid player ever. However, Aston Villa have also entered the race for the defender and are happy to pay more than their local rivals. Terry then dropped a major hint over his future when he uploaded a snap of himself playing golf with Steve Bruce.

Clubcall: Aston Villa defender Jordan Amavi has confirmed that the club have placed him on the transfer list this summer. He has made no secret of his desire to play at a higher level and it appears Villa will not stand in his way if he gets an offer to leave this summer.

Daily Mail: Derby County are ready to challenge Aston Villa for the signing of Stoke City's veteran midfielder Glenn Whelan. Villa boss Steve Bruce has already had a £500,000 offer for the Republic of Ireland stalwart rejected by the Potters, who are looking for double that amount. And with Villa now stalling on an improved bid, their Championship rivals are ready to step in.

Birmingham Mail: Villa and Blues are set to go head-to-head to sign John Terry. The former Chelsea and England defender is available on a free transfer after leaving Stamford Bridge at the end of last season.

Birmingham Mail: Jordan Amavi looks set to leave Villa this summer, after the defender confirmed he had been placed on the transfer list. Amavi made 34 appearances last season but following Villa’s failure to win promotion back to the top-flight at the first attempt he now wants a move to meet his ambitions.

Clubcall: Derby County are the latest Championship club to be linked with a summer swoop for Stoke City's veteran midfielder Glenn Whelan. Aston Villa looked set to wrap up a deal to sign Whelan having had an initial £500,00 bid turned down for the former Sheffield Wednesday man. But it now looks like Rams boss Gary Rowett will come in with a rival bid for his services as he looks to take Whelan to Pride Park.

BBC Sport: Former Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert says he will take his time before deciding on his next move but expects any return to football management to be "away from Scotland". The former Scotland captain left Wolves in May. "There's one or two things that I'm mulling over in my head at the minute," the 47-year-old told BBC Scotland.

Best of the Rest

BBC Sport: Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola could turn to Juventus' Dani Alves to strengthen his full-back options. City do not have an experienced right-back after releasing out-of-contract duo Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna.

Sky Sports: Cristiano Ronaldo is interested in the possibility of returning to Manchester United this summer, Sky sources understand. The Real Madrid forward wants to leave Spain and a source close to the player says United are very close to his heart.

BBC Sport: England U21 coach Aidy Boothroyd has warned there are no "second chances" before his team's must-win Euro 2017 group game against Slovakia. The winner of each of the three groups qualifies automatically, with the best second-placed team also going through.
