Scott Hogan described the emotion on scoring his first claret and blue goal as “an amazing feeling and a big relief too”.
Hogan bagged the second in a 2-0 victory over Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium.
It represented his first game back, too, after injuring his ankle at Newcastle.
That led to a one-month lay-off but he came back in style with a late goal after entering the action on the hour mark.
He was thrilled on full-time as he caught up with club media.
It was an amazing feeling. It was a big relief too.
He said: “It was an amazing feeling. It was a big relief too, I will be honest.
“I have come to a big club and I have had to find my feet a little bit.
“January was stop-start for me and I wanted to string a run of games together.
“The injury certainly hasn’t helped. But that’s football. All you can keep doing is trying your best.
“It’s been a slow start for me. I won’t lie. I expected better of myself from the first few games. But it is what it is.
“Now I have come back into a team that is winning and is full of confidence. The boys are buzzing. That’s made it easy for me.”
