Analysis

Aaron Tshibola’s first Villa goal salvaged a draw for Roberto Di Matteo’s men, just when defeat was beginning to look inevitable.

The midfielder squeezed home a far-post header from Jordan Ayew’s 88th-minute corner to earn a valuable point.

Tommy Elphick had earlier had the misfortune  to concede a first-half own goal when he turned a low cross from DeAndre Yedlin past Pierluigi Gollini, who also saved the skipper’s blushes when he saved from Dwight Gayle following an Elphick slip.

But after Mohamed Diame had squandered an inviting chance to double the visitors’ advantage, Villa stepped up a gear and dominated the final 20 minutes.

Mile Jedinak had a header disallowed for offside, Ayew’s mesmerizing run ended with a shot against the outside of a post and Elphick headed just wide before Tshibola grabbed a deserved equaliser.
