Ritchie De Laet insists Villa have done some fantastic business in bringing in James Chester.
De Laet and Chester were team-mates at Man Utd and our right-back is a firm admirer of the centre-half, who he says has everything you need to succeed as a “modern-day defender”.
He told AVTV: “James is a very strong defender.
“He’s actually not the tallest to be a centre-half but he will win everything in the air.
“He’s also very brave and he’s brilliant on the ball too.
“In modern day football, that’s what you need from your centre-halves – not only a good defender but also very calm on the ball.
“James has started very well here alongside Tommy – they both have experience of promotion too, which is very important here.
“There’s clearly quality in this squad, I watched a few of the games before I arrived.
“It’s a new squad and once it really clicks, I am sure we’ll be able to go on a good run.”
