Scoring summary

Fernando Forestieri (86mins)

Villa went down 1-0 on the opening day as a late goal from Fernando Forestieri ensured three points for the Owls.

After a quiet first half, Roberto Di Matteo’s men found their feet after the break and served up plenty of chances.

Leandro Bacuna went close, Ashley Westwood half-volleyed just wide and then Keiren Westwood made a great save to deny debutant Ross McCormack.

However, despite the claret and blue pressure, Forestieri was the difference in the closing stages as the clock ticked down to full-time.
