Analysis

Villa were deserved winners here at the Abbey Stadium as they defeated Cambridge United 3-0 in the latest pre-season clash.

Roberto Di Matteo watched on as his side – featuring a good mix of experience and youth – saw off the U’s in comfortable fashion.

There was a quickfire double in the eighth minute as forward pair Scott Sinclair and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy both struck.

And there was the cherry on top of the cake with just over 10 minutes remaining as Gary Gardner swept home from just inside the box after a wonderful cutback from birthday boy Andre Green.
