Ocean Colour Scene discuss Villa and musical journey on AVTV

Members of the Birmingham band Ocean Colour Scene were special guests at Villa Park this week - and the indie rockers sat down to discuss Villa and their music career in an entertaining AVTV interview.

Drummer Oscar Harrison is a staunch Villan having grown up a stone's throw away from the club's famous stadium.

The charismatic stickman, who was joined by guitarist Andy Bennett, couldn't hide his excitement when he arrived for the interview.

Having admitted he was overwhelmed to get a close look at the Villa Park pitch and dressing rooms, Oscar took the opportunity to kneel down and kiss the hallowed turf.

Oscar and Andy's Villa Park visit coincided with Ocean Colour Scene's huge UK tour.

The band, who shot to fame in 1996 with their seminal album 'Moseley Shoals', are playing venues all over the country throughout November and December including a West Midlands date at Wolverhampton Civic Hall on Friday December 9.

The football rivalry within the band was a hot topic when Oscar and Andy sat down in the home dressing room for the AVTV interview.

The claret and blue devotion extends to lead guitarist Steve Cradock and bass player Dan Sealey - although Andy and front man Simon Fowler are fans of our rivals from across the Second City.

Nevertheless, as arguably the most popular band the area has produced over the past two decades, Ocean Colour Scene have wowed fans of all allegiances with hits such as 'The Riverboat Song', 'The Day We Caught The Train', 'Hundred Mile High City', 'The Circle' and 'Travellers Tune'.

After discussing their musical journey it was time to move on to the football chat - in particular Oscar's love of Villa.

The 46-year-old had some entertaining anecdotes about his favourite club including his earliest memories of coming to Villa Park and the day he snuck out of church to attend the 1982 European Cup celebration open top bus parade.

He also talked about collaborating with Villa legend Dion Dublin when the former striker joined Ocean Colour Scene on stage at a recent gig to play his 'Dube' percussion instrument.

And AVTV were given access to some brilliant footage of the band playing a couple of their biggest hits in concert.
