Cuellar shows support for Blind Dave's epic 'Top2Toe' challenge

Carlos Cuellar has thrown his support behind Blind Dave Heeley's latest epic challenge, as the marathon man attempts to raise £100,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Spanish defender is backing the Top2Toe challenge, which will see Blind Dave complete a staggering 260 miles of running and 800 miles of cycling from John O'Groat's to Lands End in the space of 10 days.

Blind Dave's journey commences on August 10, the birthday of Macmillan's founder Douglas Macmillan. Each day will begin with a marathon and finish with 80 miles on the back of a tandem.

The challenge, which also coincides with Macmillan's centenary year, was launched at an event at Birmingham's Town Hall where Cuellar and Villa legend Bobby Thomson joined other West Midlands football personalities, including West Bromwich Albion's Jonas Olsson, to pledge their support.

Back in 2008, the inspirational Blind Dave completed seven marathons in seven days on seven continents - but his latest challenge promises to be even more gruelling.

It is an incredible feat for any able bodied individual, but it is even more remarkable for someone who is blind.

"It is a pleasure to be here supporting this because to run the 10 marathons he has got to be superhuman," said Cuellar.

"It is really hard and it is very impressive thing for him to do. You have to be really, really strong. 10 marathons in 10 days is unbelievable."

There is an opportunity for fans of Villa, Birmingham City and West Brom to support Dave by running the Birmingham to Worcester 'marathon' leg with him on Tuesday August 16.

Five supporters from each club will be chosen to run the leg which begins at Birmingham Town Hall at 6am and finishes at the Raven public house in Worcester on the same day.

Each runner will agree to raise a minimum of £500 for Macmillan Cancer Supporter and all three clubs are offering a pair of tickets to the chosen runner who raises the most sponsorship.

To apply to enter, email your name, address, postcode, and daytime telephone number along with your age to, or contact Macmillan on 0121 742 6393 to register your interest.
