Story in brief
Villa came from behind to earn a point at Bristol City thanks to Birkir Bjarnason’s header in first-half stoppage time.
Tammy Abraham had a goal disallowed early on for a foul on the goalkeeper before the home side went ahead through Josh Brownhill who rifled a shot through a crowd of bodies and into the back of the net.
Conor Hourihane brought a save from the goalkeeper and also drilled wide prior to delivering the perfect free-kick which helped to bring Villa level in first-half stoppage time.
His whipped cross from a position on the left was met by a well-timed run from Bjarnason who headed home from 10 yards.
After the break, John McGinn almost added another thumping volley to his strike against Sheffield Wednesday the previous weekend but his effort was pawed behind by Maenpaa.
Adam Webster flicked header a over from corner and McGinn cleared a header off the line while Hourihane bent a shot inches wide with the ‘keeper rooted to the spot, as neither side was able to find a winner.
The ice-man cometh….
Birkir Bjarnason was on the end of Conor Hourihane’s cross against Wigan in August and the pair combined at Ashton Gate to earn the visitors a point.
Villa welcome Preston North End to Villa Park on Tuesday evening.
