Villa twice came from behind at Sheffield Wednesday to win 4-2 at Hillsborough.

Going in 2-1 down at the break, two late strikes from Conor Hourihane and Robert Snodgrass sealed all three points after Glenn Whelan and Lewis Grabban had twice hauled Villa level.

Wednesday's Adam Reach flicked a header wide early on after the visitors had enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges.

Despite Villa's start, it was the home side who hit the front after just 14 minutes when Sean Clare popped up inside the box to drive a low, left-footed volley into the bottom corner.

Seven minutes later, the claret and blues were level with Lewis Grabban netting his second in as many games: JohnTerry's header was well saved, Scott Hogan's follow-up was blocked but Grabban was perfectly placed to turn home the rebound.

The Owls finished the half in the ascendency after Joe Wildsmith had kept out Hogan's flick with Lucas Joao and Atdhe Nuhiu both heading off target. The hosts also had a chance cleared off the line while Robert Snodgrass saw a free header sail straight at Wildsmith.

Having spurned an earlier header, Joao had adjusted his radar by the time his next opportunity arrived on the stroke of half time, rising highest to direct a corner into the net to give Wednesday the lead at the break.

It was the visitors who began brightly again at the start of the second half with Grabban's header being kept out by Wildsmith and Hourihane skewing a volley off target.

With just over twenty minutes to play, Villa found a leveller thanks to Snodgrass's teasing cross and Glenn Whelan's back-post header - his first in claret and blue.

Wednesday had seen a ball cleared from inside the six-yard box in the first half and they came even closer to re-taking the lead when a loose ball was somehow scrambled away by Villa.

Nuhiu was also denied by Johnstone as the hosts went in search of their third of the afternoon.

Mile Jedinak and Hourihane both headed off target before the latter put Villa in front with three minutes to play. Latching onto a knockdown from a corner, he moved onto the loose ball and drove it into the corner.

In stoppage time, Villa made sure of the win when Snodgrass was brought down in the box, picked himself up and smashed home from the spot.
