Match: Aston Villa v Sunderland
Date: November 21, 2017
Venue: Villa Park
Weather: 12c, cloudy
Albert Adomah netted his eighth league goal of the season and Josh Onomah added a second as Villa maintained their promotion push with victory over struggling Sunderland.
Adomah’s 10th-minute opener was the highlight of a low-key first half in which Villa often labored against a Wearside outfit looking to impress new manager Chris Coleman.
Onomah played the ball wide to Robert Snodgrass on the right, and the winger’s low cross was guided inside the far post by the prolific Adomah.
Four minutes after the interval, Onomah doubled the lead with a fierce drive that deflected off Tyias Browning and looped over keeper Robbin Ruiter.
It was the 72nd minute before Sam Johnstone was required to make a save, the keeper pushing aside Bryan Oviedo’s low drive, but almost immediately the visitors were back in contention when Lewis Grabban scored.
However, Steve Bruce's men held on for a valuable three points.
