Analysis

Villa moved to within a point of the Sky Bet Championship play-off places with a 1-0 triumph over Bolton Wanderers in B6.

Extending the run to eight games unbeaten and four league wins in a row, the claret and blues' solitary strike came through Jonathan Kodjia, who netted for the first time since his return from injury.

Taking on a Bolton side struggling at the bottom of the division, it was a scrappy encounter that lacked many clear-cut chances.

The closest Villa came otherwise was a minute before the goal, when Kodjia himself missed a glaring opportunity while one-on-one with the Bolton goalkeeper, with Albert Adomah also in space to his left and ready to tap home.

But another three points were eventually claimed with relative ease – making it 14 from a possible 18 throughout a successful September.
