To add to the matchday experience on www.avfc.co.uk, here are Gerard Houllier's manager notes from his official matchday programme column for this evening's match against Burnley.
Good evening everybody and welcome to our Carling Cup fourth round encounter against Burnley.
This is an important fixture for the club in an important competition because we all appreciate that the Carling Cup is a potential pathway into Europe next season.
It also provides an opportunity to win some silverware and this is one of the missions of the club.
Burnley, like ourselves, were one of the founding members of the Football League in 1888 and their promotion two seasons ago into the Premier League underlined their recent renaissance.
They are battling presently to make a swift return to the Premier League and we know they will be tough opponents tonight. But we will be very determined to do our best to win this game.
We were disappointed on Saturday at Sunderland but only in terms of the result. Our performance was good overall and we created enough opportunities to have put the game to bed before their fortuitous winning goal.
We need to be more clinical as a team and we are working on this.
On Monday we opened up Villa Park to our supporters to watch the team in training and the thousands of you who came through the turnstiles made it a memorable experience.
The players enjoyed it immensely, as did I and the coaching staff. It was a day which demonstrated our solidarity and our sense of community as a club.
If we can generate the same kind of atmosphere tonight, we will be happy and energised.
