Bradley Watkins

Bradley Watkins

Bradley Watkins played a crucial role in Villa's NextGen Series triumph in 2012-13.

He started the quarter-final and semi-final games against Olympiacos and Arsenal respectively before making some crucial saves in the 2-0 final victory over Chelsea.

It was a big season for the Kent-born custodian, who at one point was one of only three fit goalkeepers at the whole club alongside Brad Guzan and Andy Marshall.

That meant Watkins was first choice for the U18s, U21s and the NextGen side.

The academy keeper enjoyed a good run of games for Villa's U18 team during the 2011-12 season.

Despite jostling with the more experienced Calum Barrett, as well as the likes of Matthew Coton and Craig Hill, he was often prefered as No.1 in the Barclays Premier Academy League.

With Benjamin Siegrist nursing a hand injury, Watkins also stepped up to the reserves squad during December, January and February to deputise for Barrett.

He was on the bench for Villa's NextGen Series games against Rosenborg in Trondheim and Marseille at Villa Park.

Watkins has represented England at U16 and U17 level.

Former Villa and Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel is his all-time favourite player.
