Paul Lambert signed Leandro Bacuna from Groningen in June 2013.

He soon became popular among supporters for his outstanding set-piece strikes and committed displays.

His versatility helped out boss Lambert, who could call on him to play right-back, right-wing or in the centre of midfield.

Bacuna scored his first goal in a 5-1 pre-season victory at Crewe Alexandra.

In September 2013, he made his competitive debut, deputising for Matthew Lowton at right-back in the 1-0 win over Norwich.

A week later, Bacuna formally introduced himself to the Villa Park faithful, setting up Karim El Ahmadi for the opening goal against Man City.

He then scored a spectacular first goal of his own - an unstoppable free-kick late on in a 3-2 victory.

He ended 2013-14 as Villa's second top goalscorer.

Bacuna has been capped 20 times at youth levels for the Netherlands national team.

Now well acquainted with the B6 surroundings, 23-year-old Bacuna has publically expressed a desire to build on his maiden campaign.
