WHAT HE SAID

It was great to think the manager had the faith to throw me in against a team like Manchester United.

I am going to keep pushing and keep training the way I have been training. I am going to keep giving the gaffer a headache to pick me.

I live just across the way from some of the other young lads so I have been pretty much living at their house and living off Eric Lichaj's cooking!

WHAT OTHERS SAID

Paul Lambert: Enda has done really fine. He was excellent against Man Utd and then against Man City. He's gone from Antonio Valencia to David Silva, which is a big ask.

MINI PROFILE

Enda Stevens got the chance to pursue his Premier League dream by joining Villa from Shamrock Rovers in January 2012.

The deal to sign Stevens was agreed back in August 2011, but the Republic of Ireland U21 starlet remained with the League of Ireland champions to participate in their Europa League campaign.

The left-back's first appearance in a Villa shirt came for the reserves in a 1-1 draw at Arsenal in January.

From there on, Stevens became a regular part of the club's Reserve League South title-winning side.

He featured 11 times for the second string, helping them to some impressive results such as a 7-1 hammering of Wolves and 4-0 success over Newcastle.

The Dublin-born ace displayed his attacking verve by setting up a goal for Samir Carruthers in a 3-0 win over Fulham at Bodymoor Heath.

One of former manager Alex McLeish's first signings, Stevens pushed himself to the cusp of Villa's first team squad.

He was handed a place on the bench for the Barclays Premier League game against Liverpool at Anfield in April 2011.

Stevens made his name at Dublin-based side Shamrock Rovers after signing from St Patrick's Athletic in December 2009.

He capped his first full season in the Irish top-flight by winning the league title with Shamrock.

In 2011, Stevens helped his team to the Setanta Cup before bagging another league championship success.

Rovers also qualified for the group stages of the Europa League, giving Stevens the chance to face the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Rubin Kazan and PAOK Salonika.

Over the course of two seasons, Stevens made 15 appearances in Europe for Shamrock.

INTERESTING FACT

Enda Stevens played for the same club as Paul McGrath - St Patrick's Athletic.
