Upbeat Agbonlahor credits squad for strong start
Gabby Agbonlahor believes Villa are in good shape heading into the international break.
The striker opened his account for the 2014-2015 season a quarter of an hour into Sunday's match against Hull City and was a standout performer.
Strike partner Andi Weimann also netted in the 2-1 victory and Agbonlahor is hopeful the claret and blues can take this form into this month where they face Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.
He said: "I think with the way we're defending we've got a good base and we're always going to create chances.
"We've tried to start playing a bit more and Andi (Weimann) was on fire on Sunday too.
"He's played me through and I thought I'd take the shot quickly. It's always nice to get off the mark early in the season.
"There's a lot more you have to do as a striker now with defending. I think I've done that quite well even though I'm not scoring the goals and I'm pleased I'm still doing a job for the team.
"Andi's (Weimann) a quality player, his work rate is great and for me, he is the best finisher at the club."
Villa have equalled their best ever start to a Barclays Premier League season, unbeaten in three games, conceding just one goal in the process.
Paul Lambert has opted for experience in his summer signings, a trait evident in Villa's league matches so far and Agbonlahor reckons the mix of youth and experience will prove crucial when they resume league action on September 13.
He added: "I think you need experience as well as youth and I think over the last couple of seasons, maybe we've not been strong enough and this season we are looking stronger.
"The defence and the whole back four look strong and there's competition for places.
"It's always good and keeps everyone on their toes in every game."
