Determined Delph ready to seize England opportunity
Fabian Delph is determined to seize his opportunity after receiving a call-up to the latest England squad.
The midfielder played 90 minutes of Sunday's 2-1 win over Hull City and dashed off to meet up with Roy Hodgson's squad on that evening.
England take on Norway in a friendly at Wembley tomorrow before contesting a Euro 2016 qualifier against Switzerland in Basle next week.
Speaking after the clash with the Tigers, Delph described his pride when discovering his dream became a reality last Thursday.
He said: "I finished training and the doctor Roddy (MacDonald) spoke to me and said England have asked if you're fit. I walked out and saw our press officer Sean and he said 'you've been selected'.
"I'm really excited about it. It's an opportunity to train with some great players and I'm looking forward to going out there and trying to do well.
"It's every boy's dream to make an England squad and I've managed to do that and it's probably going to be a big experience for me so hopefully I can go there and do well.
"Some of the boys I know from the under-21s. I was brought up with Danny Rose through the Leeds academy so it will be nice to catch up with him."
Delph picked up the club's Supporters' Player of the Season award for the 2013-2014 term and has established himself as a firm fans' favourite in B6.
He has been instrumental in attaining Villa's best start to a Barclays Premier League season in eight years but is keen to credit those around him for his achievement .
He added: "I've been working hard over the last two or three seasons.
"I had quite a few big injuries at the start so it's been nice to stay fit.
"I've got to thank all my team mates, I think they've been outstanding.
"I love playing with Westy (Ashley Westwood) and he's made a lot of things easy for me and I've managed to get a call-up."
