Manager Lambert relishing big Benteke training boost
Paul Lambert is hopeful that Christian Benteke is on course for a return to first team training after the international break.
Boss Lambert revealed that Benteke is currently in light training - jogging and working with the ball - at Bodymoor Heath.
But he thinks the giant striker could step it up by "doing little bits with us" in the next few weeks.
The manager says that would be a major boost for the squad.
He said: "Christian and Libor are doing really well.
"Christian is ahead of Libor at the minute in his rehab.
"He will be, with a bit of luck, doing little bits with us after the break. Then we will see how he is.
"He's doing really well. Libor is a bit behind him but doing very well himself.
"If Christian can start training with us that would be a major thing.
"Then we will have to see how he is for games-wise and see how he feels himself.
"But in terms of physical condition, he's looking fantastic. He's desperate to get back.
"He'll be his own guide on it. He will let us know how he's feeling."
Lambert certainly won't be rushing Benteke back as he has big faith in his other forwards - Darren Bent, Gabby Agbonlahor and Andi Weimann.
On his strikers firing in the coming games, he added: "Absolutely. I don't have any worries with that.
"On another day against Orient, Darren would have scored.
"And I thought Gabby did great on Saturday against Newcastle. I think he might have got a goal.
"So I don't have any worries on that. Because we're creating, I know goals will come.
"I know if Darren had another couple of chances against Orient, I'm pretty sure he'd score.
"He's normally deadly on that 18-yard line. It just never happened for him or us."
