Stoke v Villa: Bent - We want to come out of the blocks fast
Darren Bent insists the players have a "big determination" to start the season in style against Stoke.
But he believes the team will have to scrap to make this a reality.
Bent says there's a great camaraderie in the group and a collective resolve to put in a good display and pick up the three points at the Britannia Stadium.
He said: "It's about showing real belief and going there in confident mood and giving it a real go.
"We must play our football, of course, but it's vital to scrap and battle for everything to get the result. That's so important.
"There's a big determination in the group to do well this season - starting at Stoke.
"We need to impress on that opening day - and come out of the blocks quickly.
"We want to be difficult to play against. That's our aim.
"Personally, it would be great to get a goal on the opening day. If I can put one away in a victory for the team, I will be so happy. And it also gives you that boost to go on and keep scoring.
"If I can find the net - and the team win - it will be great."
Bent also hailed the influence of the claret and blue faithful on the road.
The striker knows they will have a big impact on proceedings with their backing for the boys.
He added: "The away fans will be right behind us of course. They will back us, big-time.
"They have always been superb at Villa - they show a magnificent vocal support for every player at every ground. The support we receive is really great and it will be on Saturday."
