Villa announce tourist destination partnership with Andalucia


Aston Villa is delighted to confirm that Andalucía has become the Club's official tourist destination partner for the 2014-15 season.

The region in southern Spain is visited by approximately eight million international tourists every year, including around 2.5 million from the UK, making it one of the world's most complete tourist destinations.

The climate, hotel infrastructure and the hospitality of its people have made southern Spain a favourite holiday hot spot for both Spanish and foreign visitors alike.

Sun and sand tourism is the leading tourist sector in the region and the 800km of coastline is home to a surprisingly varied range of salubrious beaches. In recent years golf tourism has grown more in Andalucía than in any other region, with over one hundred golf courses and an excellent range of top-quality accommodation and services that are fully integrated with the courses.

Special mention must be made of Andalucía's monuments. Each and every one of the region's provinces boasts an impressive historical and artistic heritage. Some are home to world-famous buildings, such as the Alhambra in Granada, Cordoba's Mosque or Seville's Cathedral. Others, such as the towns of Arcos de la Frontera in Cádiz or Ronda in Malaga or the towns of Ubeda and Baeza in Jaen, both of which are world heritage sites, will pleasantly surprise visitors.

Andalucía is also home to some of the largest football clubs in Spain - including past Villa pre-season opponents Malaga and the reigning Europa League champions Sevilla.

The Andalucía tourist board managing director, Francisco Artacho, said: "This is a unique opportunity to take the Andalucía brand to the British market, our principal source of tourism, considering that Aston Villa is one of the best established and most successful football clubs in England and Europe.

"The Club's participation with our brand in the Barclays Premier League is a guaranteed success to be able to share our destination with the Premier League's excellent audience".

Villa acting chief executive Robin Russell said: "We are delighted to be able to announce this partnership with Andalucía, and we welcome them to our growing number of official partners.

"The Club is excited about the opportunities that we will be able to offer our fans in the coming months as a result of the partnership. Andalucía is one of the most popular destinations in Europe and, with flights to the region available from Birmingham and East Midlands airports, we hope that more of our fans will be able to enjoy everything that it has to offer in future."
