Villa 0-0 Parma verdict: Lambert - We're in good shape
Paul Lambert insists Villa are in good shape for the big Barclays Premier League kick-off after they rounded off their pre-season campaign with a stalemate against Parma.
Lambert felt his team showed plenty of encouraging signs against the Italian outfit, despite the lack of clear-cut chances.
And the Villa boss believes his players are in good nick ahead of next week's top-flight opener at Stoke.
"Parma are a really good side and they finished sixth in their respective league," said the Villa boss.
"It was a good test and I enjoyed the game.
"The main thing for me, I've said all along with pre-season, is to come through without any real injuries.
"We've managed to do that, other than Joe Cole. That is it now. Next Saturday you're into it."
Although Villa were unable to find a breakthrough against Parma, Lambert was pleased with the sharpness of forward trio Darren Bent, Gabby Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann.
Substitute Bent had Villa's best chance of the game, hitting the bar in the final minute after being teed up by Jack Grealish.
Lambert is confident there is sufficient firepower in the ranks.
"I don't think that will ever be a problem, trying to get a goal or two," he said.
"Darren was unlucky with the strike. He looked sharp when he came on and I thought Gabby looked sharp as well.
"We've got options there with Andi Weimann as well. Now I've got to pick the right team to go and win."
Lambert was also pleased to welcome back Ron Vlaar following his extended post-World Cup break.
He felt the Dutchman cruised through the second period.
"He hasn't been back that long," added the manager.
"Today I thought he cruised through the game when he came on and didn't look as if he has been away.
"I'll see how he is during the week and have a proper chat with him."
