Bacuna: Benteke's positive attitude has been incredible
Leandro Bacuna says Christian Benteke's optimism has been incredible during his recovery from injury.
Bacuna hailed his close friend's upbeat attitude since suffering a ruptured Achilles at the end of last season.
The injury meant Benteke missed out on the chance to represent Belgium at the World Cup.
But Bacuna revealed the 6ft 4in forward managed to maintain his beaming smile throughout the ordeal.
"The time he got injured was just before the World Cup," said Bacuna.
"I felt really bad for him. I saw him smiling and stuff and I said to him 'do you not feel it'?
"He said that God just taught him to be happy. That's also what his parents taught him.
"Everybody who gets a big injury before a World Cup would feel it because everyone has feelings.
"But he just tried to take the positives out it and move on.
"He's doing very well at the moment. I think next week he starts running. "I hope he gets fit soon because he's a really important team-mate. He's such a positive person."
There were mixed emotions for Bacuna at the weekend when he returned to his former club Groningen.
It was a memorable occasion for the Dutchman with many of his family in the crowd.
However, the 4-1 defeat left him disappointed.
"It was nice to be back home," added Bacuna.
"I played here for 12 years and it is fantastic to come back and to hear the people here cheering.
"The only bad thing is that we lost because I wanted to win against my old club.
"A lot of my family were there. They are still supporting FC Groningen because my little brother is playing there."
