Tuesday media watch [22.07.14 PM]: Boss backing for newboys
Express and Star: Wide players Aleksandar Tonev and Antonio Luna are on the verge of leaving Aston Villa after being left out of the squad for the tour of the United States. Villa boss Paul Lambert has decided to leave the duo out of the travelling party for the trip to Texas as he looks to move last summer's signings out. Left-back Luna is being strongly linked with a move to Italian side Verona having fallen down the pecking order at Villa Park, with Kieran Richardson, Enda Stevens and Joe Bennett set to battle it out for the full-back berth.
ClubCall: Summer signing Philippe Senderos says he's "really excited" about the new season as he prepares to play his first game for Aston Villa. The Switzerland international is expected to pull on a Villa shirt for the first time when Paul Lambert's side take on FC Dallas on their US tour on Wednesday. The former Arsenal and Fulham centre-back was signed by Lambert on a free transfer and joins Joe Cole and Kieran Ricahrdson as the summer acquistions so far.
ClubCall: Paul Lambert says Aston Villa's new signings Philippe Senderos, Joe Cole and Keiran Richardson have made a big impact already. Villa are currently in pre-season training in Texas in the US and play Dallas FC in their first game on tour on Wednesday. Lambert says he is pleased with how their preparation for the new campaign is going and has been impressed with what he's seen from free transfer arrivals Cole and Senderos and former Fulham utility man Richardson.
