Focused Keane: The hard work really starts on Monday
Focused Roy Keane says he's relishing the chance to meet the players and begin preparations for the 2014-15 season on Monday.
That's when the players return for pre-season training after their summer break.
And new No.2 Keane can't wait to welcome the lads back as he eyes a good upcoming campaign working under Paul Lambert.
Keane says he's "here to help" the boss - and ready to offer his opinion on claret and blue matters.
He told us: "I can't wait for Monday. That's what it's all about - working with the players and particularly watching them in the games coming up in pre-season.
"As much as I have seen the players sitting up in the stands, it's different working with them on the training pitch, looking at the tactical stuff or the physical side.
"That's when the real work starts. We will get the next few days out of the way and then from Monday I am here to help the players.
"Despite the image people have of me out there, I am actually quite relaxed. Hopefully the players will enjoy that.
"Obviously I want to out on the grass with the players - working with them, getting close to them, trying to help them, whether that's the senior players or the younger players where I can pass on my experiences.
"I will obviously help out in any way - and be one of the trusted staff that the manager can speak to. I am here to help out anyone at any level."
One of the vital elements of pre-season is the tour of USA, where Villa face FC Dallas and Houston Dynamo as well as taking part in warm-weather training.
Keane is relishing the trip.
He added: "I am looking forward to it. It will be important for me to get to know the players and staff.
"Sometimes you get to know people better when you travel with them.
"It will be about getting some training sessions under my belt and getting a feel for the group. Pre-season will be very important.
"Going to the States will be good. I have only just back from there with Ireland. I will be back over there with Villa. I am looking forward to it.
"America is always a good place to have pre-season, with the facilities over there, which are always excellent. I am really looking forward to that trip."
