World Cup 2014: Excited Vlaar - I want more 'wow' moments
Ron Vlaar admits he experienced "incredible emotions" as Netherlands hit two late goals to reach the World Cup quarter-finals.
And the Villa captain hopes for more big moments as Louis van Gaal's side look to progress even further in Brazil, with Costa Rica in the last eight on Saturday.
He said: "We were expecting a tough match against Mexico and that's what we got. Any team that gets through to the knockout phases is a good side and is in good form. That was the case with Mexico.
"It was very hard circumstances with the conditions. But once again, we came back from a goal behind to win. That made me very proud.
"Mexico were obviously more used to the conditions but we had the energy needed to finish the game well.
"We found ourselves back in the game with the equaliser in normal time - and even managed the win before the end in stoppage time.
"In some games, you have to survive - and that's what we did against Mexico. We worked very hard in that match.
"It was incredible emotions at the end. It was a great feeling.
"I was delighted, thrilled, happy - I didn't even realise at the final whistle what had just happened.
"It was really crazy. It wasn't shock because I was completely aware of myself - it was more 'wow'. One moment we were out and heading home and the next moment we were through to the quarter-finals."
Vlaar pointed to an unbelievable spirit and focus in the Dutch camp as they get set for Costa Rica on Saturday in Salvador's Arena Fonte Nova, kick-off 9pm BST.
He added: "The mood in camp is great. It's been brilliant so far.
"We have won all of our games so it's so far, so good.
"I am really looking forward to the game on Saturday. It's another great challenge - another good game against good opposition - and we want to get through.
"The focus is really good. That's very important. We have a very good team spirit. We know what we are doing. We are concentrated and focused.
"These games don't come easier. There are no easy games.
"Costa Rica beat Uruguay and Italy and then drew against England. Then they beat Greece. It will be another hard game again - but we are really looking forward to it. It's a great challenge again.
"There is good belief in the camp. This is the most important thing in our squad.
"Results help, of course, especially when you beat the world champions 5-1.
"But we are really focused. We are training very hard. The feeling in the group is very good.
"Everyone is together - we are all in it together. You can see that in the games."
