World Cup 2014: Guzan on "unbelievable" tournament buzz

Brad Guzan has spoken of his World Cup fever - as he prepares to represent the USA in a second consecutive tournament.

Guzan was part of the US squad that reached the knockout stages at the 2010 finals in South Africa.

And the Villa goalkeeper is involved with his national team once again at this summer's event as they get set to take on Ghana, Germany and Portugal in a tough-looking Group G.

He described it as "something special" to be part of the biggest event in world football.

"It is unbelievable," said the 29-year-old.

"I had the privilege of being part of 2010 in South Africa so I'm very lucky in that aspect.

"It is an unbelievable event, an unbelievable tournament and to be a part of it is something really special.

"Brazil is known as a footballing country and has probably got the biggest history.

"So to have the World Cup in Brazil will make it that much more special."

USA begin their campaign on Monday against Ghana - the team who eliminated them in extra-time in a closely-fought second round clash four years ago.

Guzan - who is set to be the second choice keeper behind Everton's Tim Howard - expects his team to be competitive even though their group contains much-fancied Germany and Portugal.

"As a team we got out of the group four years ago which is nice to see," he said.

"It proved that the US is making strides in world football. We try to be competitive and that is something Americans are known for - their competitiveness and never-say-die attitude.

"So we'll use that attitude to our advantage in Brazil.

"In a World Cup anyone can beat anyone and there are always some twists and turns."
