CEO Faulkner signs up for Cystic Fibrosis Trust charity abseil
The Villa Chief Executive will abseil down the Holte End on July 6, a pledge he made following the diagnosis of his seven-month-old son, William, with cystic fibrosis, a life-limiting condition which affects the lungs and intestines.
More than 10,000 people in the UK and tens of thousands more worldwide are afflicted by the condition and many Villa fans have not only donated to the fundraising effort but have signed up to join Paul in the 100ft abseil.
"I've been very touched and humbled by the support the abseil has received from Villa fans, some of whom I already know but also many who I haven't yet met," he acknowledged.
"It wasn't something I was personally expecting but, as they do so often and in so many ways, our fans have shown they truly are a class apart.
"To anyone reading this who has supported the abseil then I very simply say, 'Thank you - it's very much appreciated.'
"It's going to be quite an experience abseiling down the Holte End, with the beautiful pitch spread out in front of you, and all those seats and concrete directly below - a daunting experience I should probably say!
"I know that there are still spaces available on the abseil if more fans would like to sign up to do it themselves as well.
"Certainly it will be a memorable experience for everyone who does it, and also has the benefit of helping a fantastic charity which I know from personal experience does amazing work."
