Express and Star: Paul Lambert was today set for talks with Randy Lerner as speculation mounted over his Villa future. Express and Star: Graham Taylor says Villa are poised at a key moment in the club's history as he prays for "football people" to take on the club. Taylor, a man revered at Villa Park for his own rescue act following the team's last relegation from the top flight in 1987, is fearful new owners with the wrong motives could be lured to Villa.

ClubCall: Aston Villa look set to miss out on one of their top targets Maxime Lestienne after his agent revealed he is set for talks in Turkey. The Villans have had the Belgian Under-21 international scouted on numerous occasions and were hopeful of tying up a deal for the Club Brugge forward this summer.

ClubCall: Paul Lambert will reportedly fly out to America to hold talks with Villa owner Randy Lerner as he seeks clarification on his future. US businessman Lerner announced on Monday that he was putting Villa up for the sale after eight years in charge but he isn't thought to have a buyer lined up as yet.

FourFourTwo: Ron Vlaar is targeting a marked improvement in Aston Villa's fortunes after a disappointing finish to their Premier League campaign. Villa endured a torrid end to the season, winning once in their last nine matches, eventually finishing in 15th position, five points above the relegation zone.

Walsall Advertiser: Aston Villa are the second Premier League team to announce a pre-season friendly at Walsall. The Villans will visit the Banks's Stadium on Tuesday, August 5.

Birmingham Mail: "It's not good enough - but how many times have we said that this season?" That was Villa captain Ron Vlaar's damning verdict as the curtain came down on another campaign to forget for the claret and blues.
