Villa 3-1 Hull: Lambert sensed big belief in players and fans
Paul Lambert said he knew very early on Saturday that it was going to be Villa's day against Hull.
He spoke of the roar he heard from the fans as the team exited their coach on arrival in B6, calling it "huge."
And he also spotted an inner resolve in the eyes of his players in the hours leading up to the big kick-off.
What he then witnessed was a dream performance from his players and a colossal display from the supporters as they cheered from first minute to last.
He said: "The crowd came with a great enthusiasm for the game, I thought.
"You could tell before the game kicked off that they were coming to support the lads.
"They supporters were really fantastic. Everyone played their part.
"You could sense when the lads came off the team bus that the fans were going to be right behind them.
"It's a massive club and massive fanbase. They won't accept too many defeats. We have had too many defeats, especially here at Villa Park.
"When they see a performance like that though, I am pretty sure they will be delighted.
"I thought we were brilliant, I really did. I thought we were excellent. It was a whole team performance.
"And the atmosphere was fantastic.
"The players will have fed off the atmosphere but you have to give them credit too. They are the ones in the dressing room who have to go out and perform.
"They gave the crowd something aswell. I just sensed it with the lads in the dressing room before the game. I just thought 'they are going to do something.'
"It was major pressure. It was excruciating at times. They showed character, grit and determination to see a game through when it really mattered."
