Impressed Lambert: Albrighton is "right on the top of his game"
Lambert says that Albrighton is "right on the top of his game."
The wideman started against Southampton on Saturday and produced a fine wing display against the Saints highly-rated full-back Luke Shaw.
Lambert has been thrilled to see Albrighton recover from a host of niggling injuries which blighted several seasons - and force his way back into the first team.
Now he's eager to see Albrighton push on as he looks to sort his long-term claret and blue future.
He said: "Marc has been great.
"He's been absolutely fantastic - on the top of his game. He really has.
"He was really excellent on Saturday up against left-back Luke Shaw, a player who you can understand is being talked about highly.
"But I thought Marc was excellent against him, especially in the second half.
"He's been so unlucky with injuries. They have been a nightmare for him - and for us. But he's been very good since he's been back."
Lambert believes that Albrighton is spurred on by the claret and blue faithful.
He thinks that strong level of support is always evident for players who come from the surrounding area.
Lambert sees the same backing for academy graduate Callum Robinson, who came on to huge cheers on Saturday against the Saints.
He added: "That backing always happens with someone local. The crowd bounce off it.
"You saw the reception Callum got when he came on. His first touch nearly went into Row Z and everyone still cheered. That's what happens.
"He's a young lad - there's no pressure on him, none whatsoever.
"Callum has done great. He deserved a wee sniff at it because he's done well with the reserves.
"Am I frightened to throw him in? Not at all. Because I know he can handle it. He can handle it mentally.
"You let him have the freedom."
