Guzan: We're hurting after defeat but we'll keep on fighting
Brad Guzan insists Villa will come out fighting against Southampton because they are desperate to end the run of defeats.
Guzan says it is imperative the players pick themselves up quickly after Saturday's 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace because there are still plenty of points to play for this term.
The claret and blues slipped to a fourth straight defeat at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
And Guzan is eager to see that sequence end as Paul Lambert's team seek to ensure they are mathematically safe in the Barclays Premier League.
"We're going to stick together," said the goalkeeper.
"There are a lot of points to play for. We know the fans are disappointed, as are we.
"Everyone at the club is desperate for a win to end this run of defeats.
"For us as players and as a club we have to keep fighting and we're definitely going to do that.
"We all help each other. It is not the first time we've had a bump in a road and it won't be the last.
"That is part of being a professional footballer. We have to continue to fight and we will do that. We'd love to turn it around next week."
Guzan felt a lack of cutting edge proved to be Villa's downfall against the Eagles on Saturday.
"It wasn't the result we wanted," he added.
"We knew it was going to be a tough game - every game in the Premier League is difficult whether you are playing a top team or a bottom team.
"We knew it was going to be a challenge coming to a place like Crystal Palace, especially with the form they are in.
"I think we just lacked that little bit of cutting edge. Andi had a good chance towards the end and Speroni made a good save.
"We did a decent job of keeping them at bay for a while but those are the fine margins of the Premier League.
"You have to be at it for 90 minutes and if you switch off, one player will hurt you and that's what happened."
