El Ahmadi announced as Villa Prince's Trust ambassador

Midfielder Karim El Ahmadi has today been announced as Villa's Prince's Trust ambassador.

And the central star immediately set to work by backing a scheme by the Trust to help tackle youth unemployment through sport.

It was announced at Old Trafford that Barclays Premier League football clubs across the UK will join forces with the youth charity to support thousands of the UK's most vulnerable young people.

Villa are currently one of five clubs to back the scheme, alongside Man Utd, Newcastle United, Cardiff City and Everton.

There are currently one in five young people struggling to find work in the UK, with young people three times as likely to be unemployed as the rest of the UK population.

Many young people that The Prince's Trust work with face issues such as homelessness or mental health problems, are in or leaving care, or have been in trouble with the law.

As part of a renewed partnership with the Premier League and the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA), The Prince's Trust will link up with football clubs who will provide extra, ongoing support for young people in their local areas.

Premier League stars including El Ahmadi will meet with young people on courses to give them the team skills and confidence they need to get a job or go back into education.

By 2015, The Trust will have supported 25,000 young people through football programmes.

El Ahmadi has pledged to visit Trust programmes and take part in the sport sessions.

Although, even before being announced as the club ambassador, El Ahmadi had already been involved with the Prince's Trust.

Trust

He talked to young people several months ago about their desire to forge a career in coaching through the Prince's Trust 'Get Started' programme.

Villa teamed up with the Prince's Trust to help a group of young people achieve a Level One coaching qualification.

The group were delighted to receive a visit from Moroccan international midfielder, who took part in a question and answer session before observing one of their coaching sessions in the Villa Park Indoor Academy.

Villa have a long-standing relationship with the Prince's Trust. In fact, we were one of the first clubs to support the work they do.

The relationship has gone from strength to strength - and Villa now support the 'Team' programme, 'Get into Football' scheme - and the new 'Fairbridge' programme.

El Ahmadi said: "It's incredible to see the club working on projects with the Prince's Trust - and I am thrilled to be announced as the club's ambassador today.

"I have already heard stories from these young kids about what they have been through, their hopes and aspirations for the future.

"The fact that Villa - along with the Prince's Trust - can make a difference and helps these dreams come true is fantastic."
