Villa 1-0 Chelsea: Delph - That was one of my best moments

Fabian Delph said his match-winning strike against Chelsea was up there with his best feelings in football.

Delph couldn't hide his delight after converting Marc Albrighton's cross to earn Paul Lambert's team a memorable victory over the Barclays Premier League leaders.

The 24-year-old midfielder has now netted four times this term and he is delivering on his early season vow to chip in with more goals.

"I've had a few good feelings this season," said Delph.

"To start the first game of the season was a real big one for me. But against Chelsea the main thing was the three points.

"We knew we had it in us to win the game and we managed to do that.

"The main thing was the three points but it was great to get the winner.

"It was a shame I couldn't finish them off with the chance I got at the end.

"But I wasn't too disappointed and obviously I'm really happy with the three points and the goal I got at the end.

"I could have looked silly if it had gone wrong, but it's come off. I've tried to guide it to the far post - happy days.

"I set out this season to chip in with more goals and, luckily for me, it's been that type of season."

Delph was quick to pay tribute to super sub Albrighton who showed great awareness to tee up the winner.

"It was a great ball from Marc Albrighton," he said.

"He got his head up well and found me. He has been terrific ever since he has come back.

"It is a pleasure and a joy to play with him and it was nice to celebrate with him.

"He is a top player and he has been doing it for years. I remember when I first came to the club I was impressed with him.

"He came on and changed the game and he got the assist so fair play to him."

Delph also hailed the Villa Park faithful for playing their part against Joe Mourinho's men.

In particular, he felt the standing ovation at half time gave the players a big lift.

"I am buzzing for them because they come out in force home and away and all credit to them," added Delph.

"They stuck with us. The cheer at half-time was fantastic.

"We did well in the first 45 minutes to see it through and the cheer gave us a massive lift.

"We went into the changing room and couldn't wait to get back out."
