Villa v Chelsea: Guzan on why Vlaar "aura" will be vital

Brown

Brad Guzan insists the "aura" of Ron Vlaar will be vital as Villa face Chelsea.

The Blues are renowned for the attacking impetus, with stars like Eden Hazard, Samuel Eto'o, Fernando Torres, Oscar and Andre Schurrle to call upon.

Guzan believes the presence of Vlaar in the back four will be big for Villa as they look to nullify the threat of the league-leaders.

Vlaar has had a few injury problems since arriving in B6 from Feyenoord in July 2012.

But, it's fair to say, the team have been stronger defensively with him in it.

Guzan says you can't underestimate the presence of Vlaar.

He said: "Ron a big player for us, no doubt about it.

"He's an established centre-half and a Dutch international so his quality is there for all to see.

"He brings leadership, organisation and experience when he plays.

"To have him in the team every time he plays is huge for us.

"Obviously he's had some injuries but he's played the last few games and we've benefitted from that. He's been great for us in there.

"He has that presence. He's commanding. He has that aura.

"He's a good talker in there at centre-half. He leads by example.

"I think he can get better too.

"He's a good skipper too. He has taken that responsibility on well. The lads respect him greatly."
