Villa 4-1 Norwich: Skipper Vlaar eyeing plenty more points
Ron Vlaar was thrilled with the win over Norwich - but insists that Villa must keep their pedal to the metal in the closing weeks of the season.
Villa produced some terrific football to beat the Canaries 4-1, with Vlaar proving to be a focal point at the back to repel any dangerous late opposition moves.
Villa now have a healthy 31 points and lie in 11th position - seven points above the bottom three and eight points off ninth.
Vlaar says that the team will show focus and desire as they hunt more wins.
He said: "We really needed it - for ourselves and everyone who loves Aston Villa.
"It was a massive win for us. The tally of 31 points, psychologically, is a boost now of course.
"They beat Tottenham so they were in a good place heading into this game. But we stopped them and gave ourselves some space [in the table].
"We will still need a lot more points but it's a good start with 10 games to go.
"It was a good win. It was great that the chances we had in the first half created goals.
"We didn't start well. We were one-goal down very early on. But the big man started to show what he is capable of. He scored some great goals. He was really important for us.
"Then we scored two more goals - team goals - and that helped us have a really good first half and a really good win overall.
"It all fell right after some games without goals."
