Southampton U18 5-0 Villa U18: Injury-hit youngsters beaten

Injury-hit Villa were comprehensively beaten by Southampton in the Barclays U18 Premier League clash at Staplewood.

An extensive injury list meant the claret and blues only had one recognised defender - skipper Courtney Wildin - available.

And it proved to be a game too far for the young side which featured several U16 players.

Ryan Seager opened the scoring for the Saints before teeing up Jake Hesketh for the second.

Will Wood then bagged a brace - including a well-taken volley to give the home team a four-goal advantage.

Deep into stoppage time, Isaac Nehemie laid the ball across for Niall Mason to add number five.

VILLA: Watkins, O'Brien, Wildin, Green, Zazrivec, R Strain, Hepburn-Murphy, McKirdy, T Strain, Abdo, Sellars. Subs: Lewis [for Green 77], Taylor [for Zazrivec 65], Hale [for Sellars].
