Villa v Norwich stats: Why Agbonlahor could be key man

Villa host Norwich this afternoon looking to bounce back from the disappointment of conceding an injury time goal last time out and WhoScored.com return to preview the match.

Villa will take confidence from the fact that they have secured three successive wins against the Canaries - as they look to pull clear of their visitors in the Barclays Premier League.

Libor Kozak's debut goal decided the reverse fixture earlier this season after a penalty save from Brad Guzan early on and another tight affair could be on the cards.

Norwich have struggled on the road all season, failing to win in five away from home and scoring just twice in the process, so the hosts will look to profit.

Only Fulham have conceded more goals on their travels than Chris Hughton's side and it's clear that Villa have the chance to get back on track on Sunday.

They'll need to find their feet in front of goal once again to do so and will look to the longest serving Villan to continue an impressive record against Norwich.

Gabby Agbonlahor has played five top-flight matches against the East Anglian side and has scored three goals and picked up three assists in those games.

The forward was on hand to tee up Kozak's solitary strike this season and notched a brace in the match beforehand when the Midlands outfit ran out 2-1 winners after Grant Holt - now with Villa - had pulled Norwich level.

With five assists to his name this season, Agbonlahor has been Villa's top creator and he'll be key in the final third this weekend.

He may well find room in behind a Norwich side that focus the majority of their attacking touches down the right flank (41%) - with only Man Utd, Hull and Cardiff doing so more often.

Meanwhile, Villa are one of only four sides in the top-flight to have focused more of their attacking touches down the left side of the pitch (35%).

Both sides have scored the majority of their goals in the second half of matches this season so this could be tight in the first half and the hosts will be confident of getting into the interval unscathed.

Norwich have scored just six first half goals all season so Villa will hope for a second half push having scored eight of their 12 league goals at Villa Park after the break.

Lambert will look to the pace of Agbonlahor and co. to stretch the game as his side aim to edge towards survival with a valuable three points on Sunday.

With just one defeat in their last 11 encounters with the Canaries, the chance to rebuild the gap between themselves and their opponents will be a great incentive.
