Lambert: We put in hard yards during Portugal training camp
Paul Lambert has hailed the training camp in Portugal as a big success.
Lambert said the decision to take the players away for warm-weather sessions worked a treat.
While Bodymoor Heath was battered by wind and rain, the first team aces sweated during intense workouts in the sun.
He said: "It was good to get away.
"I don't think the weather was too great here while we were gone so that was good from our perspective.
"The weather was really nice there and the lads worked hard, which was the main objective of it.
"Because of the weather, you can do things over there more so than you can do over here - especially when you consider the wind and the amount of rain back home.
"We trained as if we were here at Bodymoor Heath. We worked hard. We put the work in over there. That didn't change.
"There's two ways to look at the break - you can stay here and get the weather or you go out there and get the weather and do the same work - or even more."
While the players put in the hard yards, several team bonding exercises away from training also helped morale.
He added: "It was a good little break and the lads did little things themselves. It was really enjoyable. It was good.
"The thing is you have to live in each other's pockets for that period of time. It gives you that little bit of freshness too.
"It can help you. I don't think you ever know anybody inside-out because that's impossible. You'll get to know them to a good level and yes, it's been good.
"We're now ready to go on Sunday and go to try to win."
