Happy Lambert spells out reasons for Holt capture
Lambert was clearly delighted to be linking up with the three-time Norwich player of the year as he spoke to the media in his pre-Liverpool press conference.
The boss discussed Holt's all-action approach on the pitch and massive personality off the field and revealed the powerful forward would be in the squad for the clash at Anfield.
He fully expects Holt - inducted into the Norwich hall of fame in 2012 - to impress in claret and blue.
He said: "Holty was a no-brainer in terms of me going to do it.
"He was fantastic for me in three years at Norwich. I am sure the Norwich fans hold him in great esteem for what he did for the football club.
"He was a fantastic player but he was fantastic around about the place too. He was a big character.
"You need characters at football clubs. There are one or two already in the dressing room. It's good to enhance that. He will do that.
"He will add some strength and depth to us also because we're not a massive squad. He will give us a hand, that's for sure.
"I know what I'm getting in him too. I think he will surprise a few.
"He's an old-fashioned No.9. When Norwich went up to the Premier League, everyone said 'Grant Holt can't do it.' That's all I ever heard 'Grant Holt can't do it.'
"He scored a right few goals and he was a real handful. He earned the right to be there.
"His own career started down in the lower regions but he earned the right to play at that top level. He's earned the right to come here.
"I know what I'm getting. If he does what he did at Norwich, he will be an absolute handful.
"His career has been incredible - so up and down. He left Forest for Shrewsbury and we went to see him play for them against Dagenham.
"I wanted to get him to Colchester but we couldn't do it at that time and he went to Norwich. Then I went to Norwich and everything clicked there."
